not for profit

Bank-on-Rain.com is now non-profit status.

Bank-On-Rain (BoR) has officially received its 501(c)3 status as a non-profit organization in the State of Washington. We were only slightly delayed because of using the word “Bank” in our name, but after we clarified that we were not a 'Bank' as such, and our focus was water and not keeping people’s money, we were approved. It feels really good to get to this point after so many months of planning.

We are a small and nimble group of dedicated individuals and we are doing a post on who we are really soon. We have quite varied talents and expertise and our mission is to create grassroots solutions for rainwater collection for consumption and agriculture in developing areas of the planet. This means we research and help with the installation of what are usually considered relatively basic and simple solutions; often using repurposed containers, which might have been used for something else first and often can be found abandoned in a storage facility or warehouse.

In many cultures girls and women are tasked with the collection and storage of water for daily needs.

Much of the water in developing countries is of poor quality and source, spreading disease, compromising a decent standard of health and causing a high rate of infant mortality. The necessity of collecting water usually prevents women and girls from access to education if available and this is the flip side of BoR, it will often facilitate the opportunity.

Our non-profit status will help enable BoR assist, share expertise, and to partner easily with other organizations or foundations who seek simple solutions for access to clean water and assocated education. We have the capability to design, implement (construct), educate others in simple rainwater collection systems that can be carried out at both the community and individual level. Looking at the wider picture we can share our knowledge to create sustainable business opportunities based on rainwater collection and storage and thereby bring about greater self-sufficiency and self-respect.

As a non-profit entity, BOR can apply for grants and seek tax-deductible donations from those that share our Mission.
